This collaborative learning workshop aims to explore, understand and promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate adaptation and resilience.
The NbS Fresco enables to:
- Raise awareness about NbS benefits
- Foster education and knowledge uptake
- Support capacity-building to develop NbS in one’s city, rural area or coastal area
- Encourage mainstreaming of NbS by contributing to their widespread adoption
- Promote collaborative and systemic thinking

The story behind
NbS are « solutions that are inspired and supported by nature, which are cost-ffective, simultaneously provide environmental, social and economic benefits and help build resilience » (European Commission). NbS are powerful solutions to climate change adaptation, but still unknown of the general public.
Inspired from the Climate Fresk, this serious game was created by IID-SII in 2025 within the NBRACER project, as a response to this knowledge gap.
Discover the power of working with nature – not against it !
How does it work?
Participants are divided into groups and work together to sort and place visual cards on a visual canva representing a landscape (urban, rural, coastal…).
The cards represent natural hazards, selected Nature-based Solutions, as well as their benefits, barriers and solutions for implementation.
This enables participants to have a holistic view of how integrating NbS in a landscape can solve climate and biodiversity issues at a systemic level.
